The Greeks have a very nice expression to part with a person. Instead of “goodbye” they say “eis to epanidein”, which literary means “until we see each other again”. It is not a parting wish. It is a promise to meet with the other again in the future. This is what our WeatherXM Android app, our free weather forecasting app, would like to wish to all of you who have used it during the past three years.

Your messages of support and the value that you reported receiving from our app, in diverse cases, such as commuting daily to your workplace or going fishing, have been the fuel which kept our Android app going. It has really been an exciting ride for us all. But now it has reached a point where it is no longer possible for our company to continue supporting it.

Ex Machina’s starting point was a passion that motivated us to use weather-centered technology to achieve positive impact for the environment and for people. We have gone a long way since then. We discovered many unexpected uses of our app for daily activities, for work, short-term planning, etc. Yet, as our business model evolved it gradually became clear to us that the WeatherXM Android app could not be sustainable. Thus we decided, starting 2019, to pull the plug. At the same time we discovered a whole new ecosystem, in the B2B realm, where the value of our weather forecasting service is much more enthusiastically received.

This was the drive for our team to focus our effort in providing top class services for businesses, rather than continue supporting the app. Towards this direction our company gained the support of a major VC, SOSV. Currently we are putting all of our efforts on our new plan, which will be announced in the near future.

We come out wiser from this common journey of ours. Yet we do not imply to have exhaustively explored all the possible scenarios for our B2C approach, especially for mobile users. For us it remains an open venture. We enjoyed the first part of it and we feel confident we will walk that path again in the future.

To all of you who have been loyal to WeatherXM Android app in this route we wish “eis to epanidein”. From our part this is more of a promise, instead of a wish. We hope that you have enjoyed the ride as much as we have. If you haven’t showed us your love yet for our Android app, now is the time to do it! (use your imagination 😉 )
